About Found Fork Farm
We didn’t plan on farming. Really. What we wanted was some peace and quiet on a little patch of Kentucky countryside. But once you’ve got a piece of land like this, it’s hard not to see what might grow.
Why mushrooms? A co-worker in the corporate world said he’d buy some if we grew them. Then a few more people said the same. Why sorghum? Because the barley gave up. It got choked out by weeds and vanished. The sorghum, on the other hand, shot up to seventeen feet tall—much easier to find (and way more useful, but more on that later).
The previous owners had eight kids. And kids leave stuff. Everywhere. A boat. A bike. An ice skate (yup, just one). Spoons. Forks. Crocs (yup, multiple). While we were thinking of farm names, the ironweed caught our eye—maybe Iron Weed Hill? Or Know Nothing Farm, since our experience ended at a backyard garden. “What Am I Doing Trying to Learn to Drive a Tractor at My Age” was too long for a business card. Then, during a walk one evening, my husband said it: Found Fork Farm. Perfect. It honored the chaos, had some humor, and just sounded right.
By the end of 2023, Found Fork Farm was officially a thing. Our mushrooms and sorghum syrup found their fans, and other seasonal products followed. The tractor, once a terrifying orange dragon, is now just another trusty tool. We’ve learned a lot (and have plenty more to go), but we’ve pulled ideas from our backgrounds in education, corporate America, and manufacturing. And we’re proud to be certified Kentucky Proud®.
Take a look around. Follow us, like us, sign up—whatever the kids are calling it these days. And thanks for visiting Found Fork Farm.
